My Teaching Philosophy

I believe…that ALL students, regardless of race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, religious background and/or any other background, are deserving of a great education. I believe that all students should be treated equitably and have the right to fair treatment.

I believe…in encouraging students to be individual and creative, providing a learning environment where students can work together as problems solvers and analytical thinkers. I believe that an interactive classroom where students are engaged in inquiry and applying their knowledge through activity is beneficial to student understanding.

I believe…that I must meet each child where they are, helping, inspiring, and encouraging them to reach their potential. I believe that students work best when they are encouraged and rewarded for excellent behaviour and/or work well done.

I believe…that it is my duty as a teacher to create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning. Building an atmosphere that values respect, trustworthiness, honesty, and kindness is essential to student success.

I believe… that students benefit from a structured setting where expectations are made very clear. I also believe that rewards and consequences must be consistent and fair.

I believe…that my professional growth is another essential factor for continuous success in my teaching. I understand that I, too, must be a lifelong learner who continually works to make myself more knowledgeable and competent in the field of education.

I believe…it is my role as a teacher to inspire my students to become readers, not just people who can read; writers, not just people who can write; and life-long learners, not just receptacles of knowledge.
